Grouse Grind: Climb Grouse Mountain

The Grouse Grind is a popular giant Stairmaster for locals and travellers. It is known as Vancouver’s peak, because it is located in North Vancouver, which is very close to the city center and offers a beautiful view of the city. The first time I went up the mountain was with a two of my best friends who were visiting and we took the lift up. There are also small animal shows at the top of the mountain that are very entertaining. The Grind is open during the summer months from about May to October.

It is a moderate hike of stairs with some rocky and steep areas. It takes about 1 ½ to 2 hours to reach the top if you take small breaks to catch your breath. We saw a wide range of people from children to older adults doing the trail. If you are travelling on a budget, this is recommended because it is FREE to go up the mountain and only $10 to ride the lift down – compared to about $40 for one adult admission. It is not recommended you head down the mountain by foot. The view at the top is well worth the the trek up the mountain.

Les Faux Bourgeois French Bistro: Talk of the Town in East Vancouver

The reviews about this place do not lie. The food, the wine, the restaurant are all worth the last reservation available for an evening after work. I was tempted to try this place after reading about the lines before they open for dinner and the lack of reservations available all the time. I think I called twice: once for a weekday reservation and once for a weekend reservation, the first time they were fully booked and the second time they only had one early reservation left, so I took it.

flatbread lambcheeksduckconfit

We had a french cabernet wine and I was almost drunk before we started eating because the hot waiter kept refilling our glasses. He suggested the tarte flambee alascienne, which is a flat bread topped with sweet onions, pancetta, goat cheese, and a drizzle of sauce – it was very flavourful and a great start to the meal. For mains we had the duck confit and the apricot lamb cheeks. They were both amazing. We finished are meal with the creme brulee, which was a little late because the restaurant was extremely busy. It was still delicious aside from being a little over burnt. The best part is, this restaurant offers affordable french food – just thinking of our meal makes me want to go back for more.

Location: 663 15th Avenue East Vancouver BC (map)

Price: $10-$20; Mains $15-$20
